Dr. Nisha Tamhankar, known affectionately to her patients as “Dr. Nisha,” completed her B.S. in Biology at Yale University. After teaching middle school science in her home state of New Jersey for a couple years, she attended the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Upon graduation in 2013, she was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society. Following dental school, Dr. Nisha served as Chief Resident at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where she received training in all aspects of general and cosmetic dentistry. During that time, Dr. Nisha also moonlighted in a pediatric dental practice.

In 2014, Dr. Nisha moved to Washington, D.C. with her husband and became a certified Invisalign provider. In addition to her memberships with the American Dental Association and DC Dental Society, Dr. Nisha is an active member of the American Academy of Clear Aligners, participating in the group’s Invisalign continuing education programs.

At Modern Dentistry, Dr. Nisha provides comprehensive dental care with a special interest in Invisalign treatment, cosmetic dentistry, and sleep apnea treatment with oral appliance therapy. She combines modern technology with a gentle, personalized approach to help patients feel comfortable and confident in their care.

When not in the office, Dr. Nisha can be found cooking or at the playground with her two young children. In addition to English, Dr. Nisha speaks Spanish and Marathi, an Indian language. Dr. Nisha continually strives to provide the highest level of dental care in a caring and gentle manner.
